The Australian American Leadership Dialogue (AALD) is a private diplomatic initiative, which brings together Australian and American leaders from government, enterprise, defence, technology, education and the community.

The AALD was created in 1992 by Phil Scanlan AM , FAICD to broaden and deepen mutual understanding between Australian and American leaders. It was established with the active support of then US President George HW Bush to identify, connect and nurture leaders from Australia and the US and help underwrite the security and prosperity of Australian and American citizens, our shared Indo-Pacific neighbourhood and the world beyond.

Since 1992, all US Administrations have supported the annual AALD Forum. The AALD is the only non-US NGO to have been invited into the White House for private briefings. The AALD has always enjoyed bipartisan support from all Australian Governments.

The Australian American Leadership Dialogue is an important and necessary plank in our platform of official and private diplomatic engagement.
